This year, the intimate annual evening concert at the home of Mary Anne and Nam Le Viet features the premiere of “Mauiana,” an homage to Maui and pianist Oscar Peterson, composed and performed by The Katie Thiroux Trio (Katie Thiroux, Justin Kauflin and Matt Witek). Special guest vocalist Sheryl Renee, master guitarist Colin John and pianist Paul January will also entertain. Appetizers by Chef Ralph Giles and beverages by Fine Wines are included.

The third annual “Jazz, Blues and Beyond” concert will be held on Saturday, July 2, at The Altitude Deck at 650 Lipoa Parkway in Kihei. Doors open at 5 p.m., and tickets are $20.

This evening of outstanding music will feature Lee Norris and Concept 4 (deejay Lee Norris, guitarist Prem Brosio and saxophonist Michael Guzlak); The Jake Thomas Quartet (Jake Thomas, trumpet; Danny M, bass; Paul Marchetti, drums; Sal Godinez, keyboards); and The Colin John Blues Band with special guests vocalist Sheryl Renee and Blues artist Ron Metoyer.

Lee Norris and Concept 4 is the amalgamation of musicians and integrated technology. Master guitarist Brosio, saxophonist Guzlak and jazz deejay Norris bring these elements together, providing a music journey through time and space.

The Jake Thomas Quartet consists of Jake Thomas on trumpet, Danny M on bass, Paul Marchetti on drums and Sal Godinez on keyboards.

Thomas just finished his third year at State University of New York-Purchase, and as a student of trumpet legend Jon Faddis, he plays lead trumpet with both the Purchase Jazz Orchestra and the Purchase Latin Jazz Orchestra.

Born in Ohio to a British architect father and Italian artist mother, Colin John spent his youth in Memphis, picking up guitar by accident. After graduating from Ohio University, he turned pro, played in New York City and moved to London in 1993, where he spent ten years forming the Colin John Band that has played extensively in England, the USA and Europe.

After opening for John Mayall on a multi-island tour of Hawaii in 2001, Colin moved to the Big Island, where he dove into the roots of the blues slide guitar: Hawaiian steel guitar. Studying the music of past masters and with current proponent Alan Akaka, Colin became proficient on the instrument and continues to utilize it both live and on recording sessions

The dynamic versatility of Sheryl Renee comes from a lifetime in the entertainment business. She moves effortlessly between music genres and now is in the process of moving to Maui. She is a vocalist, actress, entertainer and producer. Known as the “Lady with a Golden Voice,” she has shared the stage with some of the best talent in the world. Sheryl performed the national anthem for President Barack Obama, and her vocals have been featured on countless CDs. She is an award-winning actress who has appeared in more than 40 theater productions.

Originally from Oakland, California, guitarist and vocalist Ron Metoyer was a member and songwriter for Rhythm Riot and released a self-titled LP on the San Francisco-based Infransonic records. He moved to Maui in 1983, yet left soon afterward to tour with platinum-selling Canadian rock artist Kenny Shields. Upon his return to Maui, he has become a regular performer with his band, The R. E. Metoyer Blues, Rock & Soul Revue since 2011 and the Island Soul Band since 2015.
