ArtLab Maui brings creativity to keiki

Keiki make color choices. ArtLab teaches fundamental art skills and techniques, but along the way it also teaches literacy, reasoning, focus and communication.
KIHEI — School’s out, and ArtLab Maui is IN for summer and beyond! This new, local art studio offers teacher-led programs where artists of all ages can learn, play and create.
Owner/founder Tasha Compos is a blend of artist and educator. With a Master’s Degree in Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, Compos spent years in the classroom. Seeing a significant need for creative, hands-on learning, her love of teaching and passion for art merged to make ArtLab Maui happen.
“ArtLab is the culmination of a lifelong journey,” Compos explained. “While I have taken many paths both as a classroom teacher and as a business owner, this is the first time I have combined my passion for art education and my entrepreneurial spirit. I am thrilled to bring this new art program to our community!”
The vibrant, welcoming space at 381 Huku Li’i Place in Kīhei offers engaging art activities that foster creative thinking and discovery. The focus is on creation over outcome.
Young artists are encouraged to express ideas and are celebrated for their unique points of view, building confidence and self-esteem.
There are programs for keiki ranging from ages one to 18 on weekdays and weekends. Summer programs are still available, and labs are offered all year long, including:
Sensory Play Labs & Playdates — Fun exploration for youngsters and toddlers ages one to five;
Family Labs — ‘Ohana enjoy quality creative time together (with no cleanup!);
Afternoon Art Labs — Four weekly sessions with various themes for ages seven to 15;
Portfolio Labs — Six weekly sessions for young artists ages 12 to 18;
Drop-in Project Labs & Open Labs — Three-hour art themed sessions or unstructured studio time;
Art Camps — Themed four-day programs for ages four to six and seven to 15.
Themes for art labs and camps include sculpture, mixed media, pop art, painting and stop motion animation. Kids’ art parties are also available.
“I love art, I love creating and I love teaching. As an artist and a teacher, my hope is to inspire kids, helping them become critical thinkers, decision makers and creators,” said Compos.
“ArtLab Maui is committed to offering meaningful experiences that address the emotional, creative and academic needs of all kids, luring them away from devices and back to sketchbooks, where they can let their imaginations free.”
The program aims to support creative and academic growth in a safe, supportive and FUN environment. Go to ArtLabMaui.com to learn more.
