WEST MAUI – The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is providing $300 in funds for Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ Online Summer Theatre Camp. These funds are earmarked to be used for needs-based tuition assistance for families who demonstrate financial need.

In light of the COVID-19 economic downturn, the club was concerned that some families would not be able to pay the stipend for the unique summer theatre program.

The Online Summer Theatre Camp will offer youngsters ages 8-18 the opportunity to collaborate with other young performers to co-create a theatre experience using their own ideas and imagination.

The culmination of the Online Summer Theatre Camp will be a Virtual Performance on Friday, July 31.

Carolyn Wright, chief operating officer of MAPA, said, “We were so surprised that you gifted us with this donation! Thank you for thinking of MAPA and our virtual summer camp program! We will be sending you videos that your club can show during your meetings that will demonstrate the talent of our youngsters and this new virtual theatre experience.”

The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is meeting virtually online via Zoom. Meeting speakers are posted on the club’s website at www.rotarycluboflahainasunset.org.

Guests are welcome to join the virtual meetings; contact Mariko Higashi at marikoinmaui@gmail.com for the Zoom link for the meetings.
