Niskala to perform piano recital

“Naomi Niskala is a bold, rigorous, poetic champion of this tough-minded but eclectic composer. (Robert) Helps’s legacy is in good hands,” noted Jack Sullivan of American Record Guide.
MAKENA – On Friday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Keawala’i Congregational Church in Makena, Ebb & Flow Arts will present renowned pianist Naomi Niskala of Pennsylvania in a solo piano recital. Admission is free.
Dr. Niskala will perform Roger Sessions’ beautiful “Piano Sonata #1;” two works by Robert Helps, including his gorgeous “Three Hommages;” “Mementi” by Vivian Fine, based on Schubert; Arnold Schoenberg’s legendary “Opus 19;” and “In the Mists” by world-renowned Czech Composer Leos Janacek.
“We are thrilled to invite pianist Naomi Niskala to Hawaii. Her program is in perfect fulfillment of our mission,” explained Robert Pollock, executive director of Ebb & Flow Arts.

While on Maui, Niskala also will record modern music for inclusion in E&FA’s planned fifth commercial CD.
There will be an intermission with complimentary food and beverages on the beautiful Keawala’i Congregational Church grounds.
“Pianist Niskala impresses through the extreme dynamic changes executed completely without any technical losses…,” noted Matthias Noether of Berliner Zeitung.
“Niskala’s… (playing has) brilliant, hard textures and finger work balanced with gorgeous differentiations of textures,” said Pulitzer Prize-winning Composer David del Tredici.
