Hula O Na Keiki starts Friday

KAANAPALI – Kaanapali Beach Hotel will host the 29th anniversary of Maui’s only solo children’s hula competition, Hula O Na Keiki, on Nov. 8 and 9.

Children ages 5-17 will participate in the solo hula competition while also learning, interpreting and performing a Maui chant.

Participants can also enter into the Palua (couple) Division, where they will be able to dance in tandem. This year, they do not have to be opposite genders.

The Hula Kahiko Competition will be held Friday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 9 p.m., and the Hula ‘Auana Competition is set for Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Local artisans in the Hawaiian Festival of Arts and Crafts will feature educational sessions through demonstrations, presentations and workshops. The festival is slated for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition, luxury Hawaii-based fashion label Manaola will host a pop-up shop in the hotel showcasing Hawaiian fashions and designs inspired by the elements of nature. Hours are Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
