Akaku to honor Maui Nui heroes
KAHULUI – Billed as “the most outstanding block party of the year,” Akaku: Maui Community Media is hosting the sixth Maui Walk of Heroes Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The event will be held from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in front of the Akaku Studios at 333 Dairy Road in Kahului.
Akaku will enshrine in cement the hand and footprints of four of Maui Nui’s favorite heroes: Keali’i Reichel, kumu hula and world-renowned Hawaiian music icon; Sierra Club President and Akaku Producer Lucienne deNaie; Hawaii Wildlife Fund’s warrior for the ocean, Hannah Bernard; and Molokai’s “Ambassador of Aloha,” Uncle Pilipo Solatorio.
This free, family- and pet-friendly event will feature comedian Andy Bumatai as master of ceremonies, dance music by the Andy Kaina Band and surprise musical guests.
Adding to the fun will be videos on the big screen and on-air interviews conducted by Akaku’s youth media whiz kids.
All this will be held just steps away from Akaku Center’s fine eating and drinking establishments.
Festivities will be broadcast live on Akaku Channel 55.
