Lahaina Arts Guild launched
LAHAINA – The newly created Lahaina Arts Guild (LAG) is dedicated to providing Maui County youth and veterans access to the creative arts through education and artistic opportunities.
Lahaina Arts Guild was established in 2018 by members of Lahaina Arts Society (LAS) to fill a community need for artistic programs to enrich the members of the Maui County community.
Historically, LAS provided free art classes and activities to children living in Maui County. Classes began at the Banyan Tree Gallery and Old Jail Gallery in the historic Old Lahaina Courthouse in the 1970s.
LAG will be continuing this tradition through providing skills-based art classes for children of all ages, and will expand to bring the world of art to military veterans with the Veterans Art Exploration Program.
Local artists will be used as teachers and mentors for LAG classes. Further expansion of its efforts will include an annual High School Art Competition, Exhibition and Scholarship Awards Program (with help from donations).
The first children’s event, the “Keiki Art Fest,” will be held on Saturday, June 15, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Lahaina Cannery Mall.
Visit www.lahainaartsguild.org for class information and registration, to make a much-needed charitable donation or for additional information about LAG’s mission: “We Make Art Happen.”
Lahaina Arts Guild is a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
