Students compete in 2019 Keiki Whale and Ocean Art Contest

LAHAINA – The winners of the 2019 Keiki Whale and Ocean Art Contest were announced on March 9 at the annual Whale and Ocean Arts Festival, a celebration of the return migration of the Pacific humpback whales presented by LahainaTown Action Committee.

The ocean-themed art contest had over 250 entries from Lahaina area students. Here are the results, with winners listed by order of finish:

Age 3-5 years – Shilo Alexander for “I love the Sea,” Bianca Amalfi for “Dolphin Underwater” and Kora Cartwright for “Jellyfish;”?

6-7 years – Alba Downing for “The Life,” Emily Olea for “Ocean Life Sunset” and Baile Santiago for “Jellyfish;”?

8-9 years – Luke Nakoa Mounts for “Whales at Sunset,” Jaya Hagopian for “Two Dolphins Jumping” and Skye Carroll for “The Salty Sea;”?

Bianca Amalfi came in second in the age 3-5 division for “Dolphin Underwater.”

10-13 years – Noa Sheveland for “Ocean Sunset,” Victoria Campbell for “Stinging in the Shower” and Katie Okata for “Abstract Tako.”

The students received prizes donated by Gemini Charters, Trilogy Excursions, Atlantis Adventures, Pacific Whale Foundation, Honolua Surf Co., Pi Artisan Pizza, Lahaina Pizza Co., Paradise Lahaina, Honolulu Cookie Co., Hawaii Gelato, Kimo’s, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Maui Ocean Center and Del Sol.
