The event will feature a special preview film by Emmy Award-winning Filmmaker Dr. Tom Vendetti.

KAHULUI – On Sunday, March 3, at 3 p.m., Ebb & Flow Arts will return to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theatre for its tenth biennial presentation.

The event features first a chamber music concert that will feature contemporary Korean music and contemporary classics.

The second part of the event features a special preview film by Emmy Award-winning Filmmaker Dr. Tom Vendetti.

The film contains recent footage from Vendetti’s trek to the holy mountain Mt. Kailash as well as an interview with the Dalai Lama.

Also on the program are short films by Dr. Gary Greenberg (“Florotica”) with special “Cinemaroma,” and Peter Swanzy’s “Stars,” which is based on a Korean poem.

There will be a pre-concert discussion at 2 p.m.

Members of Ebb & Flow Ensemble are Ignace Jang, violin; Sung Chan Chang, cello; and Robert Pollock, piano. Jang is concert master of Hawaii Symphony, and Chang is associate principal cellist.

The evening’s music program will feature works by Korean composers, including Eugene Lee’s “Etude #3” for piano; Sun Young Park’s “Heem” for violin, cello, and piano; and world-renowned Isang Yun’s “Konigliches Thema” for solo violin.

Other works on the program include Maurice Ravel’s ravishing “Sonata” for violin and cello, and “Trio” for violin, cello, and piano – the last work by iconic American Composer Henry Cowell.

In the spirit of peaceful cooperation, Ebb & Flow Arts celebrates its many instances of musical cultural exchange with South Korea.

Most recently, Dr. Shinhee Park, president of Veritas Musicae in Seoul, invited American composers Sarn Oliver, Peter Swanzy, William Anderson and Pollock to create short piano pieces based on Korean poetry for performances in Korea and in Hawaii.

In exchange, E&FA commissioned Dr. Park to compose a work for solo violin.
