LAC to host 21st annual Lighting of the Banyan Tree
LAHAINA – LahainaTown Action Committee will host the 21st annual Lighting of the Banyan Tree in downtown Lahaina on Saturday Dec. 1. The event will be split between Campbell Park in the day and Banyan Tree Park in the evening for the actual lighting ceremony. The town will have 64 lampposts on Front Street decorated with Christmas wreaths.
Keeping with tradition, on Saturday, the historic tree will be lit at 6:30 p.m. by West Maui County Councilwoman-elect Tamara Paltin, with 6,500 colored Christmas lights and 800 Lahaina residents and guests in attendance. The Banyan Tree will be lit for the entire holiday season, from Dec. 1 to Jan. 1.
Keiki activities and the Maui Made Holiday Gift Fair will kick off at 10 a.m. in Campbell Park. The arrival of Santa at the North Pole (sponsored by 5A Rent A Space) and other keiki activities will be held until 5 p.m. Join in the fun with this Lahaina island-style event with a holiday arts and crafts along with a variety of local musicians.
In Banyan Tree Park at 5:45 p.m., the Lahainaluna High School Band will perform for the actual lighting.
Special mahalo to the Pioneer Inn and Wharf Cinema Center for simultaneously lighting their holiday lights with the Banyan Tree.
