McGuire wins Lahaina Poster Contest
LAHAINA – Darice Machel McGuire’s “Reef Dancer” won the 30th annual Lahaina Poster Contest and its grand prize of $3,000 sponsored by LahainaTown Action Committee. The winning art becomes the limited edition official Lahaina Poster for 2019.
Additional prizes include the Lahaina Arts Society Award to Ali Isabelle for “Sharkpit;” Honorable Mention to Erin Dertner for “Sun and Shade” sponsored by the McKelvey Family; Most Promising Artist to Ian Tremewen for “Sailing to Lahaina” sponsored by Cool Cat Cafe; and People’s Choice to Diane Snoey Appler for “Heart of Lahaina” sponsored by the Pioneer Inn.
This year’s judges were LAC Board President Snehal Patel, Wharf Cinema Center General Manager Donna Soares and art collector Mari Stien.
All of the original artwork is on display and for sale until Sept. 3 at the Old Lahaina Jail Gallery located in the Old Lahaina Courthouse. The gallery is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The official Lahaina Poster is limited to 1,000 prints. It will be available Dec. 1 at the Lahaina Visitor Center in the Old Lahaina Courthouse (open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and online at www.visitlahaina.com.
LahainaTown Action Committee promotes, encourages and preserves the historical, cultural, social and commercial vitality of Lahaina, the town and destination.
It operates the Lahaina Visitor Center – the hub for Lahaina festivals and ongoing weekend events – in the Old Lahaina Courthouse. This center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
LAC was formed by business owners and residents in 1988 to preserve the historic integrity, rekindle the small town atmosphere and promote the uniqueness of Lahaina.
LahainaTown Action Committee is a 501(4) nonprofit organization. It is primarily self-funded through membership dues, event revenue and promotional product sales.
