Cane Fire to perform free concert

By Staff | Apr 26, 2018

Up for Island Music Album of the Year in the 2018 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, Cane Fire will perform on Thursday, April 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. outdoors at the Baldwin Home Museum in Lahaina.

LAHAINA – Kaniela Q, Joe Chee Jr. and Kahala Greig of the band Cane Fire will be performing at Lahaina Restoration Foundation’s free monthly Hawaiian Music Series concert on Thursday, April 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. outdoors at the Baldwin Home Museum on the corner of Dickenson and Front streets in Lahaina.

Kaniela Q. and Chee knew each other from their involvement in the music scene on the Big Island in the 1990s. They both moved to Maui in 2009 and soon thereafter formed the band Cane Fire after recruiting Maui musician Greig.

Cane Fire was a popular band that was booked at music venues throughout Maui.

When Kaniela Q. announced he was moving to the Mainland, the three musicians decided to record an album as a project of aloha honoring their time performing together on Maui.

The project produced the album “Coming Home” – 12 songs, most of which are original compositions that reflect the different styles of each musician and songwriter, and tells the stories of their island life. The CD is on the final ballot of the 2018 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for Island Music Album of the Year.

Limited seating is provided on the lawn, and blankets, mats and low beach chairs are welcome. Paid parking is available in the lot behind the Baldwin Home Museum.

The ongoing Hawaiian Music Series is sponsored by Hawaii Tourism Authority and the County of Maui Office of Economic Development with support from KPOA 93.5 FM.
