Augie T has been at the core of the local comedy revival since he began performing for audiences in Hawaii and across the United States 25 years ago. He was named one of Pacific Business News’ 40 Under 40, funniest comic in Hawaii by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and Midweek, and one of Hawaii’s Top 100 Influential Filipinos.
Humble beginnings in public housing in Kalihi helped shape Augie’s comedy and inspire his commitment to the community.
He volunteers with numerous organizations that champion healthy children and families, and assists his daughter, Mahea Sims-Tulba, with her B.R.A.V.E. Hawaii Foundation.
Augie also works with Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui’s R.E.A.C.H. initiative to expand the availability of afterschool enrichment and bring positive messages to island youth.
Mahea faced the issue of bullying growing up. She decided to change her negative experiences into constructive and helpful ones.
At age 12, Mahea founded B.R.A.V.E. Hawaii, a nonprofit organization that encourages school-aged youth to “Be Respectful And Value Everyone.”
