Maui Orchid Society hosts guest speakers

By Staff | Jan 12, 2017

WAILUKU – The Maui Orchid Society meets monthly on the third Tuesday at Wailuku Community Center at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 17.

Meeting activities will open with member Ted Plume sharing his knowledge on “Repotting Phalaenopsis” at 6:30 p.m.

This month’s featured speaker is Dave Sorokowsky from Paph Paradise, Lockeford, California.

Sorokowsky has been growing Paphiopedilums for about 12 years and seriously hybridizing for the past ten of those 12 years. His Paphiopedilums have received over 50 awards to date from the American Orchid Society.

Sorokowsky and his wife, Stacey, started Paph Paradise in 2013, with many of his award-winning plants playing a key role in their breeding program.

Maui Orchid Society meetings are open to the public; however, members only are able to participate in door prize orchid giveaways, show and tell exhibits and sometimes silent and live auctions.

Annual membership is $15 (free for seniors over 80).
