UHMC to host ‘Open Mic’ event
KAHULUI – The University of Hawaii Maui College Music Club’s “Open Mic” will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at UHMC’s Multi-Purpose Room.
Carrying on the festivities of International Music Week, the UH Maui College Chorus will kick off the event with a performance of popular favorites with many original mash-ups. The audience can sing along to get ready for performing later.
Love to sing, play an instrument, recite slam poetry, do magic tricks, stand-up comedy, karaoke, act, dance, hula? All are welcome to perform (or observe), including all UH Maui College students, staff and faculty, invited along with the whole community of Maui.
All talents and all ages are welcome, as this is a family event. Guest performers from the Maui community contribute to the festivities along with the Institute for Hawaiian Music.
Free admission, food and beverages; there will be board games for keiki, too!
“This is the fourth year we have held ‘Open Mics,’ ” said Karyn Sarring, advisor to the Music Club.
“So many ‘open mics’ are solely focused on music, held late at night and not for family. Alternatively, UH Maui College Music Club wanted to showcase the diverse talents in our community and provide an opportunity for all of UH Maui College performance classes showcasing music, drama, language, writing and other arts and culture. We are thrilled that it has expanded into a spectrum of talent that represents the international communities of Maui.”
