Maui’s premier wine and food event supports the MACC

KAHULUI – Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s 22nd annual Maui Calls gala fundraiser will take place on Friday, Aug. 19, at 6 p.m. This event, Maui’s premier wine and food tasting gala, is themed this year to celebrate vintage Hawaiian fashion.

Tickets are on sale now for this signature event that includes gourmet pupus created by Maui’s award-winning chefs, fine wine tasting from world-renowned vineyards, live entertainment and much more.

The 2016 Maui Calls will feature an array of distinguished wines from across the globe, overseen again this year by Alan Jahns, Wine Division manager of Paradise Beverages.

This year’s list includes nine new selections and 19 in all that include Adelsheim Vineyard, Babich Wines, Benovia Winery, CADE Estate & Plumpjack Estate Wineries, Chehalem, Duckhorn Wine Co., Fort Ross Vineyard & Winery, Lynmar Estate, Rombauer Vineyards, and Switchback Ridge.

Maui Calls guests will enjoy a delicious culinary adventure this year orchestrated by Chef Eric Faivre of Aqua Hospitality/Aston Hotels & Resorts.

Maui Calls will feature agourmet pupus created by Maui chefs.

His stellar lineup of restaurants and chefs includes Cane & Canoe at Montage Kapalua Bay, Hula Grill, Humuhumunukunukuapua’a at the Grand Wailea, Ko at the Fairmont Kea Lani Maui, Fork & Salad & Three’s Bar & Grill, Hali’imaile General Store, Ka’ana Kitchen at the Andaz Maui at Wailea, Oceanside, Sansei, Wolfgang Puck’s Spago and many others. Dessert options will be provided by Four Seasons Resort Maui, B3 “A Beach Bunny Bakery,” Donut Dynamite, and the Cupcake Ladies Catering Co., and coffee will be served by Maui Oma Coffee Roasting Co. To showcase this year’s vintage fashion theme, Tori Richard has loaned a collection of garments from their archives. FEAST Creative Director Amanda Robson will create a special fashion-themed art installation and direct a performance by some of Maui’s top dancers.

Jimmy Mac and the Kool Cats will wrap up the evening with guests dancing under the glowing roof of the MACC’s Yokouchi Pavilion.

The Maui Calls live and silent auctions will again offer travel packages to Maui “staycations” or Mainland experiences, and always the very special “uniquely Maui” items found at no other fundraiser. Live and silent auction highlights include an Auckland, New Zealand getaway and winery tour of Babich Wines, a South Pacific Paul Gauguin cruise, accommodations and a tasting menu for eight at Mama’s Fish House, two-night stay at the Lynmar Estate in California’s Russian River Valley, a luxurious day excursion on the exclusive Jayhawk Yacht and many more.

Maui Calls is a much-anticipated annual event as well as the gala fundraiser for the MACC. Individual tickets start at $175 for a cruising opportunity to try stellar restaurants represented at the event, or the chance to sample new wines not yet found on the island. Proceeds from Maui Calls help to support the arts education, cultural, and community programs at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
