MAPA theatre campers to stage ‘Disney’s The Little Mermaid’
WAILUKU – The talented students of Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ Summer Musical Theatre Camp will present “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” live on stage for eight performances from July 15-24.
As the culmination of MAPA’s camp, this charming musical fable will capture the hearts of audience members of all ages with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl,” and “Part of Your World.”
MAPA’s Summer Musical Theatre Camp provided more than 200 hours of intensive training in acting, dancing and singing for 71 students ages 8-18.
These young performers have been training and rehearsing daily under the expert guidance of Director Sally Sefton, Musical Director Kirsten Otterson, Choreographer Vanessa Cerrito, Lead Teaching Artist Kathleen Schulz, Teaching Artists Logan Heller and Eva Sikes, and Stage Manager Rachel Bega. Designers for the production include Set Designer Todd Van Amburgh, Lighting Designer Ricky Jones, Props Designer Kari Welch and Sound Designer Jason Pfahl.
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the Disney film produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker, and written and directed by Musker and Ron Clements, the show was originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions and features music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and book by Doug Wright.
“Disney’s The Little Mermaid” runs eight performances on July 15-17 and 22-24 at the ?A’ali’ikuhonua Creative Arts Center at Seabury Hall, 480 Olinda Road, in Makawao.
Show times are Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 7 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.
