Robert Bedard wins 27th Lahaina Poster Contest

LAHAINA – Artist Robert Bedard won the 27th annual Lahaina Poster Contest for his painting “Aloha from Mala.”
Winners in the contest, sponsored by LahainaTown Action Committee and Lahaina Arts Society, were announced Friday evening, Aug. 7, at a reception for the artists.
The poster contest offers a grand prize of $2,500 sponsored by LahainaTown Action Committee. The winning art becomes the limited edition official Lahaina Poster for 2016.
In addition to the first prize, the Lahaina Arts Society Award went to Sarah Williams for “Imua.”
The Most Promising Artist Award, sponsored by Cool Cat Cafe, went to John O’Leary for “Gentle Magenta.”
The Honorable Mention Award went to Erin Dertner for “Postcard from Lahaina.” The award is sponsored by the McKelvey family.
And the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Pioneer Inn, went to Haden Burt for “Banyan Tree under the sea #7.”
All of the entries are on sale in the Old Jail Gallery located in the Old Lahaina Courthouse in Banyan Tree Park. The show will end on Sept. 7.
The 2016 Lahaina Poster, limited to 1,000 prints, will be available starting Dec. 5, 2015. These posters are a popular item for art enthusiasts on Maui and around the world.
The winning poster will be sold at the Lahaina Visitor Center, via www.visitlahaina.com and at fine galleries throughout the town.
