Maui bagpiper Roger McKinley will perform at Rotary’s “Go For The Green” shindig on March 14.

LAHAINA – The hypnotic sounds of bagpipes will be heard in West Maui at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s “Go For The Green” golf tournament and dinner-dance on March 14. Roger McKinley, Maui’s accomplished bagpiper and composer, will perform at the Rotary club’s first annual St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser in Kaanapali.

McKinley will kick off the club’s nine-hole golf tournament on the Royal Kaanapali Course at 3 p.m., welcome the sunset at Royal Lahaina Resort’s luau grounds at 6 p.m., and accompany the dance band Fred’s Garage after dinner.

Residents and visitors are invited to join the golf tournament and/or the dinner-dance.

Event proceeds will foster community recycling in West Maui and the club’s other community service programs.

“Roger McKinley is such an amazing talent,” said Renee Ward, Rotary club event chairperson.

“He captures the wild highland spirit when he plays dance tunes, delivers haunting tones when he plays slow tunes, and surprises audiences when he plays contemporary tunes he’s adapted to bagpipes,” said Ward.

“For this event, Roger will be combining his talents with Fred’s Garage, our rock and roll dance band,” noted Ward. “This promises to be a truly memorable jam session.”

“The stage is set for a great St. Patrick’s Day shindig in West Maui,” said Rotary club Co-president Liz May. “We invite folks to have some fun with us as we kick up our heels and all become a little bit Irish on the 14th. And the money we raise will go to a great cause. We’re going green to keep the island clean.”

The “Go For The Green” Rotary event will include a nine-hole golf tournament and dinner-dance with no-host bar, dinner buffet and silent auction.

Attendees may purchase nine-hole golf and dinner-dance tickets for $125 per person, or dinner-dance tickets for $75 per person. Discounts are available for dinner tables of eight with or without golf.
