Magical Strings to play lively jigs and reels

By Staff | Feb 5, 2015

Magical Strings’ music has been described by the Washington Post as “sonically gorgeous.”

MAKAWAO – Magical Strings will perform on Friday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at Makawao Union Church. Their music will have you dancing to lively jigs and reels, and their unique compositions and stories will take you to Ireland and beyond.

Philip and Pam Boulding, who have been touring internationally for 36 years and have recorded over 20 albums, will perform on their own hand-crafted Celtic harps and hammered dulcimers – plus whistles, accordion and concertina.

Philip will also present a harp workshop for all who are interested in this magical and timeless instrument. “From Ireland to Hawaiian Slack-Key!” is set for 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Beginners to experienced musicians will enjoy a hands-on journey into the joys of the Celtic harp, from Irish airs, dance tunes and ornamentation to Hawaiian slack key.

For the workshop location and registration, or more information on the concert, call 878-6958 or e-mail philtheharper@gmail.com. Concert tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door; visit www.magicalstrings.com or call 800-838-3006 (Brown Paper Tickets).
