Chino LaForge and island comedians to perform at the Maui Theatre
LAHAINA – Power Up Comedy’s visionary and CEO Chino LaForge continues to make waves in Hawaii’s comedy scene, flying high after performing alongside some of the nation’s top acts and honing his craft with quality stage time in 2014.
Fresh off his performances at the Maui Comedy Festival and invigorating sets on the Mainland last year, this courageous comedian and all-around performer is fired up for his big show at the Maui Theatre in Lahaina on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m.
“I’m really excited to be performing on the Maui Theatre stage again,” said LaForge. “It was the first larger capacity venue that I performed in when the Maui Celebrity Series headlined Paul Rodriguez.”
LaForge has been amusing audiences for over 17 years, whether as an actor, singer, musician, dancer or improv performer. He’s turned his attention to stand up over the last eight years, sustaining a passionate path to his ultimate goal of doing comedy full-time. He has already performing in five states and more than 30 cities.
In 2011, he assembled a motley crew of comedians on Maui to form Power Up Comedy, a production company that manages talent and produces high-quality performances across Hawaii. He also runs a successful “open mic night” each Tuesday at Three’s in Kihei, hosts visiting comics and appears regularly throughout Maui’s radio airwaves and various stage events.
His partner-in-crime, Sunny Dennis, will deliver an explosive feature set at the Dec. 20 show. Dennis is known for his “in-your-face and unapologetically-edgy” comedy, continually pushing the boundaries of what is politically correct. He’s grown amazingly over recent years, and Power Up is thrilled to have him for a feature set.
“When Chino and I first started doing comedy together, we opened up for celebrities at the Maui Theatre,” he said. “Here we are four years later, and it’s so nice to now see our faces on the poster.”
The charming and sharp host for the evening is Power Up’s experienced wisecracker, Ted Anderson. The event will also feature stand up sets from Valley Isle joke slingers Chris Rose, Isaiah Coatney, Corky Gardner and Vince Foti.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 7 p.m. This is a 21-and-over event, with tickets available for only $5 for kama’aina and $15 for visitors. There are $20 VIP tickets that feature choice seating, early entry and a meet-and-greet with the talents, plus access to the after party at Leilani’s on the Beach. There are chances to win copies of Power Up Comedy’s “Comedy Circus” DVD and other giveaways, too.
