By Staff | Dec 11, 2014
Yo-Yo Ma, a superstar of the classical and international music world, is coming to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Jan. 22.
An Evening with Jason Mraz (center) and Raining Jane is set for Sunday, Dec. 14, in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s A&B Amphitheater. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. California-based singer/songwriter Mraz’s laid-back, melodic songs reveal influences from folk to hip-hop to soft rock. Mraz met up with Los Angeles-based folk-rock band Raining Jane in 2006 and has been collaborating and songwriting with them ever since. Tickets are $25, $55, $75 or $95; call 242-SHOW.

KAHULUI – The Maui Arts & Cultural Center announced that cellist Yo-Yo Ma will perform in the Castle Theater on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7:30 p.m. This concert, “An Evening with Yo-Yo Ma,” is his only Hawaii performance slated at this time.

Yo-Yo Ma is widely known as one the finest cellists of this generation, and a musician of unusually broad appeal. He has received numerous prestigious music awards and played as a soloist with most major orchestras to universal critical acclaim and the love of listeners around the world – even outside the classical music domain.

His 90 albums have received 17 Grammy Awards. In addition to recordings of the standard classical repertoire, he has recorded bluegrass music, traditional Chinese melodies, Argentinian tangos and Brazilian music, and has collaborated with a spectrum of popular musicians.

His fine musicianship and intellectually rigorous analysis of the music have earned him the respect of his peers, but Yo-Yo Ma’s adventurous, eclectic repertoire, inquiring nature and friendly stage personality have also earned him great success with audiences everywhere.

Tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime concert on Maui are $12, $55, $90, $150 or $250, available by calling 242-SHOW or visiting www.MauiArts.org.
