artCORE Maui to stage ‘ELATION’ art festival at Maui Tropical Plantation
WAILUKU – artCORE Maui will host “ELATION,” an interactive and multimedia art festival, on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Maui Tropical Plantation. The event will feature multimedia and interactive art installations, video mapping and projections, virtual interactive video displays, performance art and dance, live musical performances on three stages, food and themed cocktails.
“ELATION” will be a fundraiser and preview night for “SHIFT,” a futuristic world’s fair-themed celebration of the arts that will take place at Maui Tropical Plantation on Saturday, April 25. “SHIFT” will feature a variety of artists, luminaries, educators, cultural performers and vendors presenting interactive art, science and technology installations, video mapping and live performances.
Known for its credo, “Party with a Purpose,” artCORE spearheads events that support local nonprofits, community issues and other worthy causes. This year, artCORE has teamed up with The Wisdom Center for Autism, a Maui-based nonprofit that provides a safe learning environment for children with developmental challenges and their friends, families and peers. A portion of the proceeds from both “ELATION” and “SHIFT” will fund the programs and resources of the center.
“The Wisdom Center is glad to see this partnership form, as we all share mutual goals to nurture and grow opportunities for creative expression,” said Executive Director Joe Breman.
“The overlap in our focus on innovative technology and multimedia shows that these learning tools are also fun, interactive and engaging. If this helps to raise awareness and provide something back to the autism community, then we all gain from it.”
artCORE was founded in 2011 after it co-produced the first three “Art=Mixx” events at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (“Abstract,” “Black and White” and “Forest”). Since then, artCORE has worked with Malama Maui Nui’s Community Garden Jazz Fest, Imua Family Services’ Camp Imua, TEDxMaui, Source, Mai Tai International, Mental Health Kokua and other local organizations.
By encouraging new and cutting-edge presentations, artCORE provides a platform for artists and creators to flourish, expand, grow and interact with others.
“When we spend our time and energy creating things, we have happier lives,” said artCORE co-founder Ben Yashon. “artCORE encourages people – not just artists, but everyone – to work together, try new projects, experience new situations, push the boundaries and feel the joy of sharing in creation. We invite the community to come participate in the experience.”
Multi-level sponsorship opportunities are still available for “ELATION” and “SHIFT”; all donations are tax-deductible. Tickets are $30 per person (pre-sale) and $40 at the door. To purchase tickets, visit artcoremaui.eventbrite.com?s=30495923.
