KAANAPALI – The 24th Hula O Na Keiki, Maui’s only children’s hula competition, is set for Nov. 14-16 at Kaanapali Beach Hotel.

This year’s event will feature eight halau from Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island, California and Nevada.

Children ages 5-17 compete as soloists and as boy and girl pairs.

The competition includes a judge’s interview as well as hula performances in both kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern) dance categories.

Students are judged on their proficiency in Hawaiian language and the appropriateness of their costume.

To complement the keiki hula competition, weekend festivities at the hotel include an arts and crafts fair, cultural workshops and Hawaiian entertainment.

Tickets are now available at Kaanapali Beach Hotel’s Ohana Fun Center; call (808) 667-0129.

Competition doors open Friday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.

The Hawaiian Festival of Arts & Crafts runs Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday features an award-winning champagne brunch.
