Artists to crank up their chain-saws for ice sculpting demo, competition

Art created by the ice carvers will be on display throughout the weekend.

LAHAINA – Maui’s popular International Ice Sculpting Exhibition and Competition returns to Lahaina Cannery Mall on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 8-9.

The two-day event features artists from Japan and across Hawaii firing up their chain-saws and turning ice into art.

The ice chips will fly from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, as visiting artists from Japan demonstrate their skills in a freestyle ice carving exhibition.

Pride and prize money are on the line Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as artists sculpt huge blocks of ice in a 90-minute, head-to-head competition.

The art will be on display throughout the weekend, and the event is free.

At Lahaina Cannery Mall, every Tuesday, free ukulele lessons start at 5:45 p.m.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Polynesian Performances Hula Shows begin at 7 p.m.

On Saturdays, keiki hula shows start at 1 p.m., and Maui Toy Works holds Yu-Gi-Oh Card Sessions from 3 to 5 p.m.

Every Sunday all-ages comedy and magic with Holden Mowat begins at 11:30 a.m., and a keiki hula show starts at 1 p.m.
