Photography exhibit opening at the MACC
KAHULUI – Photos by Andrzej Kramarz (“A Piece of Land”) and Stefania Gurdowa (“Negatives Are To Be Stored”) will be on display in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Schaefer International Gallery from Aug. 17 to Sept. 28.
Admission is free. The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and before Castle Theater shows and during intermission.
Kramarz from Krakow, Poland, will exhibit work that conceptually focuses on bringing a contemporary awareness to scenes marked by the memory of World War ll.
His large-scale photographs and video are accompanied by taped interviews of witnesses from these places, who bring the stories and history back through the images.
Concurrently in the gallery will be an exhibition curated by Kramarz featuring the work of photographer Gurdowa.
These photographs were printed from a collection of glass photo plates found in the attic of her house in Debica, Poland, taken by her between 1921 and 1937.
These haunting images enable viewers to ponder the mystery of these portraits and her life as a woman photographer.
Schaefer Gallery exhibits are generously supported by the County of Maui and Margaret Raffin.
