Keiki Hula Festival to celebrate 16th year

Na Kamalii Nani O Lahaina will take the stage at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

LAHAINA – Lahaina Cannery Mall will host its 16th annual Keiki Hula Festival on Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20. This free, two-day cultural event will feature halau (dance troupes) from across the island presenting richly choreographed kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern) hula that express the traditional values of Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.

The weekend celebration also features Hawaiian artisans and crafters demonstrating lei making, weaving, wood carving and other traditional skills.

Halau will take the stage every other hour beginning at 11 a.m., with the last performance at 3:30 p.m. each day.

Saturday’s lineup will feature Hui Lanakila at 11 a.m., Te Tiare Patitifa at 12:30 p.m., Manutea Productions at 2 p.m. and Ta’aroa Nui at 3:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Hui Lanakila will perform at 11 a.m., followed by Te Tiare Patitifa at 12:30 p.m., Halau Hula O Keola Aliiokekai at 2 p.m. and Na Kamalii Nani O Lahaina at 3:30 p.m.

Other events in July include free ukulele lessons at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesdays; Polynesian Performances Hula Shows at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; Keiki Hula Shows at 1 p.m. and Yu-Gi-Oh Card Sessions from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays; and all-ages comedy and magic with Holden Mowat at 11:30 a.m. and Keiki Hula Shows at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Lahaina Cannery Mall is Maui’s only fully enclosed, air-conditioned shopping complex.

Open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. (7 p.m. on Sundays), Lahaina Cannery Mall has more than 50 shops and restaurants. The mall is located on the north end of Lahaina Town fronting Honoapiilani Highway and Front Street.
