Lahaina Arts Society announces May exhibits

Zariah’s multimedia paintings and illustrations have appeared in many children’s books and magazines.
LAHAINA – Lahaina Arts Society is featuring photography by John O’Leary and artwork by Zariah during May at the Old Lahaina Courthouse.
“Above and Below Ocean Photography” by O’Leary will be featured in the Old Jail Gallery through June 1.
Growing up in Illinois, he was inspired by the environment and wildlife in rivers and lakes and bought an underwater camera to share the large turtles, pythons and piranhas he would see.
That passion led to a degree in marine biology and moving to Maui, where he currently works at the Maui Ocean Center.
Call Lahaina Arts Society at 661-0111 for information about when O’Leary will be there to talk about his photos.

John O’Leary is self-taught and likes to share those fleeting moments he captures while snorkeling or up in a tree surrounded by beautiful Maui landscapes.
Zariah will be the featured artist in Lahaina Arts Society’s Banyan Tree Gallery during May.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Friday, May 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The reception, “Magical Dreams of a Child,” will include the unveiling of new storybook artwork, pupus, live music, print signing, talking story and magical surprises for all to enjoy.
This exhibition runs through June 2. Zariah will give demonstrations in the gallery on May 16, 23 and 30, and June 2.
The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For more information, call 661-0111.
