KAHULUI – Since her stage debut at the age of ten in Alaska, Halie Loren has gone on to become one of the finest young jazz singers of this generation, wowing audiences and wooing critics with her intimate performances.

Now, Maui can experience what the rest of the concert world has been learning. This rising star vocalist will perform in the Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m.

Loren’s deep, rich and warm voice has been described as “somehow earthy and ethereal at once,” comparable to vocalists such as Joni Mitchell, Peggy Lee and Diana Krall. Like those singers, she is an elegant yet electrifying performer, full of charisma and cool.

She has garnered critical and professional acclaim, winning the Female Rising Star and Alternative Entertainer awards by the time she was 16. She also won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and was honored for having the Best Vocal Jazz Album at the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards.

As a jazz vocalist, Loren said, “One of the greatest kinds of feedback I have received as a performer is when an audience member says to me, ‘I never knew I liked jazz music until now!’ “

Tickets for this concert in the Castle Theater are $12, $32 or $42, plus applicable fees (half price for kids 12 and under).
