By Staff | Nov 28, 2013

The Festival of Harps will perform solos and group pieces with the Maui Community Band and Maui Madrigale.

KAHULUI – Join the Maui Community Band as they play with the Festival of Harps and Maui Madrigale in “Harps and Horns” in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1.

The program will feature several compositions written by Director Ginny Morgan for harps and band.

The Maui Community Band, under the direction of Lisa Owen, has been performing on Maui for ten years.

Talented students, community members and retired Maui band teachers play with the group.

The event will be a fundraiser for the 40-piece band to attend the Ladner Band Festival in Vancouver, Canada, this June. Funds raised will help with travel scholarships.

The Festivals of Harps, under the direction of Ginny Morgan, will feature five Maui harpists: Irene Ryding, Bobbie Jo Curley, Elaine Olson, Alfred Wolf and Morgan.

Performing on Maui for 15 years, the Festival of Harps presents different types of harps and styles of playing.

The ensemble will perform solos and group pieces with the band and chorus.

The Maui Madrigale, under the direction of Cameron Keys, has been performing on Maui for 15 years.

Well-known for their lively madrigal songs and colorful costumes, they are a tradition at Christmas time around the island.

The 15-member chamber chorus features many longtime Maui residents.

The chorus will provide strolling music before the concert and at intermission, when guests may buy refreshments.

Kathy Collins and Tim Wolfe will provide narration for the show. Guest soloists include baritone Bob Wills and cellist Michelle Anchetta.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for students; call 242-SHOW.
