PAIA – The Flatbread Company in Paia will host the first annual Monk Seal Foundation fundraiser on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 5 to 10 p.m.

A percentage of all the pizza sales will be donated to the foundation, a Maui-based nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of the critically endangered Hawaiian monk seal.

The foundation will also hold a raffle and silent auction during the benefit.

The Hawaiian monk seal, our state marine mammal, is a species in crisis. There are currently fewer than 1,100 seals remaining, and their numbers continue to decline by 4 percent a year.

According to the foundation, “The challenges they face are numerous, including human disturbance, habitat loss, entanglement in marine debris and even intentional killing. Despite the many obstacles, there is hope. With focused protection and conservation efforts, the monk seal can be saved.”

Flatbread Pizza Company is located at 89 Hana Highway in Paia.
