Event to celebrate Joni Mitchell’s musical legacy

By Staff | Oct 17, 2013

Maui musicians will thank Joni Mitchell for more than four decades of heartfelt music, including 26 albums of original music and more than 250 songs.

WAILEA – An evening of music to honor Joni Mitchell, one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Mulligan’s on the Blue in Wailea.

The evening will be divided into two sets of music. One set will be songs by Mitchell performed by Gaia Best, Jamie Gallo and Louise Lambert. The three musicians will interpret Mitchell’s four decades of music with their own unique styles, from folk to blues, rock and jazz. They will be joined by Gilbert Emata throughout the evening.

There will be some of Mitchell’s own music during the break, and then numerous musicians will grace the stage to honor Mitchell, including Bill Fuller, Christy Birchard, Meaghen Owen and Apple Jensen.

There will be lots of audience participation in this “walk down memory lane with the inspiring and personal music that touched all of our lives,” Best noted.

This benefit for Women Helping Women is open to all ages.

Tickets are $15 in advance – available via www.louiselambert.com, at Bounty Music in Kahului, Lahaina Music on the West Side and Mulligan’s on The Blue, and by calling 879-9922 – and $20 at the door. Contract Best at 879-9922 for group ticket sale discounts.
