KAHULUI – Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ “Spring Extravaganza” will be held May 4 at 2 p.m. and May 5 at 1 and 7:30 p.m. in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.

The weekend opens with MAPA’s annual dance recital on Saturday afternoon, featuring dancers of all ages strutting their stuff in jazz, tap and hip-hop.

On Sunday afternoon, “The Little Mermaid” Ballet will showcase over 200 MAPA ballerinas and tell the famous Hans Christian Andersen story of a young mermaid and her handsome prince.

For a stunning finale Sunday evening, the “MOVES” dance concert will feature MAPA’s top dancers presenting original choreography and include a guest appearance by Maui’s new professional dance company, “ampersand.”
