Lahaina Arts Association to hold scholarship contest
LAHAINA – The nonprofit Lahaina Arts Association last week announced its 34th annual Art Exhibit and Partial Scholarship Contest.
Graduating high school seniors from Maui County are welcome to submit their art for exhibition and consideration in the scholarship competition.
Entries may be dropped off on Friday, March 29, from 1 to 5 p.m.; Saturday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; or Sunday March 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Old Jail Gallery in the Old Lahaina Courthouse by the Banyan Tree.
Each participating senior may drop off one entry for each of the five categories: Painting, Drawing, Three-Dimension, Photography, and Mixed Media. Visit www.lahaina-arts.org for an entry form and rules/conditions regarding the exhibition and scholarship contest.
Tuition assistance scholarship awards include $1,000 for Best in Show and $500 each for the Gianna M. Mitchell Memorial Award in Painting, Lahaina Arts Association Award in Drawing, Robert Sumner Norton Award in Photography, Lahaina Arts Association Award in Mixed Media, and Lahaina Arts Association Award in Three-Dimension. Honorable Mention awards will include gift certificates and art supplies.
Funds for the Gianna M. Mitchell Memorial Award in Painting are raised at the “4 the Luv of Art” event celebrating the life of the beloved Maui artist.
Funds for the Robert Sumner Norton Award in Photography were donated by Sue and Lowell Thomas in memory of Sue’s father, an avid photographer.
Artwork will be exhibited at the Old Jail Gallery from April 1 to May 2. A Special Artist’s Reception will be held on April 12 at 6 p.m. to award scholarships and honor contest participants.
