MAPA students to present ‘Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Kids’

KAHULUI – The young students of Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) will present a live theatrical production of the musical “Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Kids” at Steppingstone Playhouse in Queen Ka’ahumanu Center.

Appropriate for audiences of all ages, “Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Kids” runs one weekend only, July 26-29.

It’s Princess Aurora’s 16th birthday, and Flora, Fauna and Merryweather must use their fairy magic to save her from the spell of evil sorceress Maleficent.

This classic fairy tale told Disney-style features 52 performers ages 7-12 in a fresh telling of the story to a new generation of kids and families.

“Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Kids” is the culmination of MAPA’s Youth Musical Theatre Camp, which offers more than 150 hours of intensive training in acting, dancing and singing.

The production is co-directed by Kathleen Schulz and Ricky Pavao Jones, with musical direction by Kirsten Otterson and choreography by Kathleen Schulz. For more information about the program, visit www.mauiacademy.org or call 244-8760.

Show times are Thursday, July 26, and Friday, July 27, at 7 p.m., with two matinees on Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, at 2 and 4 p.m.
