Artists to explore artistic expression in ‘Boundaries’

By Staff | Jul 26, 2012

KAHULUI – “Art21: Boundaries” will be screened free at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s McCoy Studio Theater.

Art21 illuminates the creative process of today’s visual artists through the production of films, interpretive media and live programs that stimulate critical reflection and conversation.

The one-hour video program “Boundaries” asks, “Who and what limits our freedom of expression?”

“In what ways do cultural differences affect our understanding of art and other forms of communication?”

“How do an artist’s process and choice of medium affect our perception of his or her work?”

David Altmejd, Lynda Benglis and Tabaimo synthesize disparate aesthetic traditions, present taboo subject matter, discover innovative uses of media and explore the shape-shifting potential of the human figure.
