Cast of 31 to perform ‘The Wizard of Oz’

LAHAINA – Theatre Theatre Maui’s summer youth production of “The Wizard of Oz” runs this week only in Kaanapali at the Haleakala Ballroom of The Westin Maui Resort and Spa.
The play, full of familiar songs and characters, is based on the classic film set in the 1930s.
The creative team comprised of Director Kristi Scott, Marti Kluth, Derek Nakagawa, Hadley Garcia and Sarah Loney have updated the presentation to reflect a more modern feel while remaining true to the script.
The 31 cast members are: Albey Almeida, Briana Bandy, Brandon Barreno, Kamahie Baricuatro, Rachel Bergson, Markus-Alan Bettencourt, Katya Brody, Chloe Chin, Rory Delaney, Mary Dyer, Kalee Farberow, Lauryn Gillis, Logan Hanohano, Mia Heath, Kalea Holmberg-Olsen, Sierra Kauffold, Skyler Kauffold, Kyle Killett, Kiana Kirkman, Nani Kirkman, Patricia Morales, Ahtziri Orozco, Alana Power, Starla Racine, Sosefina Riley, Kamahie Samudio, Aaliyah Times, Tori Vera, Oriana Villalobos, Lara Watson and Kaila Wilkinson.
Noted Scott, “We can hope that our updated presentation will touch as many hearts as did the film we remember as children.”
Show times are Friday, July 20, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 21, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, July 22, at 3 p.m. All tickets are general admission, open seating, and may be purchased at the TTM box office outside the hotel’s ballroom one hour before each show. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.
TTM Board President Penny Wakida said TTM’s “primary mission is to bring hands-on theatre experiences to the children and adults of our West Side community. We are proud that for the past 20 years, we have been able to offer creative dramatics to all young people of West Maui regardless of ability or income. We are very fortunate to receive funding from the County of Maui and the generous community support of The Westin Maui Resort and Spa and the Lahainaluna High School to help make this happen.”
