Theater students to stage ‘The Wizard of Oz’

By Staff | Jul 12, 2012

Theatre Theatre Maui summer camp students spell “Oz” during rehearsals. The cast of 31 will stage “The Wizard of Oz” on July 20-22 in The Westin Maui Resort & Spa’s Haleakala Ballroom.

LAHAINA – Theatre Theatre Maui (TTM) will present “The Wizard of Oz” in Kaanapali on July 20-22.

Directed by the talented Kristi Scott, the show marks the 20th summer performing arts program produced by the Lahaina nonprofit organization.

On Saturday, July 14, cast members will present a brief preview of their upcoming show at the Lahaina Cannery Mall center stage around 2:30 p.m., after the mall’s regularly scheduled hula show.

The students will present another “teaser” at 4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble at Lahaina Gateway Center.

This summer’s ensemble of 31 youthful students will present a more modern feel – somewhat “manga-esque” – to this classic story onstage at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa’s Haleakala Ballroom.

Musical direction is provided by Marti Kluth, set design and tech direction by Derek Nakagawa, choreography by Hadley Garcia and costume consulting by Sarah Loney.

Performances are set for 7 p.m. on Friday, July 20, and Saturday, July 21, with the final show on Sunday, July 22, at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets for all shows may be purchased in advance at Lahaina Music. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the TTM Box Office at the Haleakala Ballroom one hour before each show. All tickets are for general admission and open seating.
