LAHAINA – Lahaina Arts Society will host Angel Melody as its featured artist for July 2012.

Her feature show, “Growing Up On Maui,” will be on display in the Banyan Tree Gallery in the Old Lahaina Courthouse from Monday, July 2, through Sunday, Aug. 5.

The public is invited to the opening reception for the show on Friday, July 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Born on Maui, Angel has been exhibiting her paintings in Lahaina art galleries since she was five years old.

She has painted four large outdoor murals – ranging in sizes up to 28 feet by 8.5 feet – in schools in the Lahaina area.

She traveled to Thailand in 2010 and painted the mural “Wildlife of the World,” measuring 21 feet wide by more than eight feet tall, in ABS Bilingual Elementary School in Chiang Mai.

Angel seeks more mural commission opportunities in schools, homes and public places.

While attending college at the University of Hawaii on Maui, Angel did the illustrations for two children’s books: “Kalani’s Wish” by Maui resident Kanara Woodford and “Seafoam Wavefollower and The Mysterious Ghost” by Maui pediatrician Dr. John Briley.

Angel’s original oil paintings are available at Lahaina Art Society, under the Banyan Tree in Lahaina and at Sweet Wahine children’s emporium in the Pioneer Inn Shops near Lahaina Harbor.

She recently graduated from the University of Hawaii Maui College with a two-year liberal arts degree.
