WAILUKU – The Maui OnStage production of Ernest Thompson’s “On Golden Pond,” with performances set for April 20 through May 6 at the Historic Iao Theater, will have a special West Side touch.

Lahaina’s Ann Marie Wilder, Kahana’s Ute Karolina Finch and Kaanapali resident Bill Love will play the leading roles in the Tony- and Oscar-winning timeless tale of Ethel (played by Wilder) and Norman Thayer (Love), who spend each summer at their lake shore home on Golden Pond.

They are visited by their divorced daughter (Finch) and her dentist fianc, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer.

The son soon becomes the “grandchild” the couple has longed for, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him, he also learns some lessons about modern awareness and some slang in return.

In the end, as the summer wanes, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack.

Time, they realize, is now against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on Golden Pond awaits them.

The Maui cast also features Brian Connolly (who works at the Diamond Head Art Gallery in Lahaina), as well as Mark Colmer and Nathan Sullivan, a 13-year-old who plays the teenage boy in the play.

Performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. at the 68 N. Market St. theater.

Tickets are $40, $22 or $15; dinner packages are available with Cafe O’Lei and Bistro Casanova.
