WAILEA – “Jazz After Dark,” an intimate evening of New Orleans jazz with Grammy Award-winning trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis, will be held on Saturday, April 7, at the Grand Wailea Resort.
Marsalis will be joined by The Jazz Alley TV Trio with Paul Marchetti on drums, Shiro Mori on piano and Danny M. on bass for the concert from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Tsunami nightclub will be transformed into a French Quarter jazz club for the show – the kickoff jazz celebration for the second annual Maui Jazz & Blues Festival 2012 from Sept. 13-16 at the Grand Wailea.
A world premiere art exhibit will feature work by Maui artist Ruby Mazur.
Marsalis is one of the top trombonists, composers and producers in jazz today. He is ” one of the best, most imaginative and musical of the trombonists of his generation,” wrote Philip Elwood of the San Francisco Examiner.
In January 2011, Delfeayo and the Marsalis family – father Ellis and brothers Branford, Wynton and Jason – earned the nation’s highest jazz honor: a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award.
Kama’aina room rates are available for the event. Concert tickets are $98, which includes a dessert buffet, one drink ticket and a donation to the Maui Visitor Industry Charity Walk.
This is an age-21-and over show; resort attire is required.
