Seabury Hall mathletes recently received the 2024 MathCounts team championship trophy at the Engineers Week Banquet hosted by the Hawaii Society of Professional Engineers Maui Chapter at Cafe O’Lei at the Plantation in Waikapu.
Lahainaluna High School senior Carla Mae Agrade and Baldwin High School senior Penelope Tupou also were recognized as scholarship awardees by Audrey Cabrera, scholarship committee chair.
County of Maui’s Department of Water Supply Director John Stufflebean was the keynote speaker of the night. The event capped off Engineers Week.
“Engineers Week recognizes the importance of engineering in our society and celebrates how engineers make a difference in the world,” Stufflebean said. “It also increases public awareness about the need for engineers, and brings engineering to life for children, education, educators and parents.”
The banquet encourages intermediate and high school STEM students to pursue a career in engineering and to foster a well-educated, future engineering workforce on Maui.
