Firefighters battle brush fire near Maui Veterans Highway

CENTRAL MAUI — A brush fire along Maui Veterans Highway burned an estimated 35 acres yesterday afternoon.
Fueled by strong trade winds, the fire was reported at 1:55 p.m. in the area south of Maui Humane Society. The cause of the fire is unknown.
Crews arrived on scene and found a fast moving brush fire. Personnel worked on containing it.
Responding units included Engine 1, Engine 6, Engine 10, Hazmat 10, Relief Engine 10, Tanker 10, Relief Tanker 10, Tanker 14, Air 1, BC1.
Assistance included multiple tankers and heavy equipment from Mahi Pono, and tankers from state Department of Transportation.
