Mālama Maui Nui announces date for Get the Drift & Bag It!
KAHULUI – Mālama Maui Nui’s annual event Get the Drift & Bag It! will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16. In light of the disaster affecting our island community, Mālama Maui Nui has invited friends and partners to provide resources to social, mental and physical health services at this event.
Volunteers are invited to gather, meet MMN’s partners and join the cleanup picking up litter between Kahului Harbor, the neighboring shoreline and peninsula from 8 to 11 a.m. Stay after for games and a community luncheon.
Mahalo to new and returning partners Yard Games Hawai’i, Sharkastics, Surfrider, Alaka’ina Digital Bus, Mauna Medics, Project Vision Hawai’i and more for this year’s coastal cleanup and community support gathering.
This event welcomes all ages. Registration is required. To sign up, visit MalamaMauiNui.org/Volunteer. Minors must be accompanied by an adult with no more than five minors per adult. Volunteers are advised to wear covered shoes and sunscreen, and bring eye protection and refillable water bottles.
Team leaders and volunteers will be assigned to designated areas to collect materials for transport to various disposal stations set up for collection and separation. Tires, batteries and scrap metal will be transported by MMN, while landfill-bound materials will be transported with support from the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) Harbor Team.
The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 35 years ago, when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastline.
Hosted by Mālama Maui Nui (MMN) since 1987 with support from community partners, donors and volunteers, Get The Drift & Bag It! is inspired by the many ongoing environmental stewardship efforts within our island community.
