By Staff | Aug 29, 2023

"It is my hope that the public will find this information helpful as we assess expedited options for housing, while also remaining sensitive to environmental and cultural considerations,” said County Councilwoman Tasha Kama.

WAILUKU – Maui County Councilmember & Presiding Officer Pro Tempore Tasha Kama (Kahului residency district) announced she will convene the council’s Housing and Land Use (HLU) committee this Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 9 a.m.

“In light of our island’s recent wildfire disaster, it is of utmost importance that we forge ahead with finding solutions to what was already a housing crisis, and has now become an actual housing emergency,” Kama said. “During the Wednesday meeting, we will hear from Governor Green’s Chief Housing Officer, Nani Medeiros, on the Governor’s Emergency Proclamation regarding housing as well as state efforts to address Maui’s housing shortage.”

Testimony will be taken in person at the Council Chambers and online via BlueJeans (https://bluejeans.com/834693029) following Medeiros’ presentations on each agenda item.
