After 23 years of support to the Lahaina public schools, the LCEF officers and board directors (Pat and Richard Endsley, Barbara Potts, Robert Kawahara, Althea Viernes, Linda Quinn and Terry Warwick) credit their successful efforts to the following major donors: Susan Bendon; Barbara Potts, president of People for Educational Equality (PFEE); Maui County mayors and County Councilmembers; the Lahaina Rotary Clubs; The Ritz-Carlton and Hyatt Regency resorts, and the many Lahaina restaurants, individuals and group donors; the school administrators, staff, parents and students who participated in the tutor programs; the hundreds of adult tutor volunteers and LHS reading and math tutors; Lorraine Tamaribuchi and the Hawaii Community Foundation for assisting in obtaining grants to initiate the grades 3-12 tutoring programs; Mark Vieth, editor of the Lahaina News; and all of the generous individuals who donated funds to keep the project operating.
Without this network of cooperation, the LCEF could not have functioned for 23 years.
LCEF will continue to accept Pat and Richard Endsley grant proposals until May 30, 2023. Please e-mail proposals to Grant Coordinator Marsha Nakamura at NakamuraMarsha@gmail.com.
Beginning June 1, 2023, LCEF will partner with the Hawaii Community Foundation.
Grant proposals may be sent to Inger Tully, Maui Community Foundation director, at itully@hcf-hawaii.org.
The mission of the LCEF is to provide financial support to the Lahaina Complex schools to enable all students, with emphasis on the under-represented students, to reach their potential.
Partnering with HCF will enable the four Lahaina public schools to continue receiving financial aid to improve the quality of instructional services to students.
