Honorees announced for 2022 ‘Legends of Lahainaluna’ event
LAHAINA — The Lahainaluna High School Foundation is pleased to announce the return of its “Legends of Lahainaluna” honors banquet. These awards were first presented in 2011 to individuals and businesses who have made significant contributions to Lahainaluna High School and the community.
November 2019 was the last time the event was held until COVID-19 restrictions prompted a temporary hiatus.
The 2022 in-person edition will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, in Hale Pa’ina, the school cafeteria.
Check in will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the welcome and dinner with entertainment. The awards program will commence after dinner.
The 2022 honorees include Clifton Akiyama, Class of 1962, for service to school and community; Glen Pascual, Class of 1989, for his years of school service through his sports photography; Walter Chihara, parent and community leader, volunteer and news journalist; Penny Wakida, retired Lahainaluna English teacher with service to the community and school. Also, to be honored as business partner, is Lahaina News with Mark Vieth as editor. Posthumous honor will be presented to the late Ralph Murakami, former LHS principal who initiated the long-running David Malo Day program in 1969.
