Princess Nahienaena Elementary School Vice Principal Ian Haskins accepts the school supplies and check from Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset President Kelsey Briggs.

LAHAINA — On a recent Friday, members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset presented dictionaries to 95 third grade students at Princess Nahienaena Elementary School.

Each student received their own copy of “A Student’s Dictionary.” The Rotary Club members conducted a “Dictionary Treasure Hunt” activity where the students could find definitions and information found in their dictionary.

Students with the correct answers to the Treasure Hunt questions received gift cards from McDonald’s.

Every student was actively engaged in searching for the answers with the help of the Rotary Club members.

Additionally, the third grade teachers were provided with a standards-based follow-up activity to use with dictionary.

Additionally at this event, seven boxes of school supplies and a check for $332 were presented by President Kelsey Briggs to Vice Principal Ian Hastings.

The supplies and funds were collected at a recent school supplies drive held in early August.

President Briggs said, “It is wonderful to see the children so happy to receive their own dictionary and to be able to provide supplies for students in need.”

These are two of the many community service projects sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset.

Rotary is a leadership organization made up of local business, professional and civic leaders.
