By Staff | Jul 8, 2022

Leah Harbottle, president of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise, presents a check to Ted Manzano, conductor of the Maui Community Band, to cover the costs of performing at the recent Fourth of July Music in the Park event in Lahaina.

LAHAINA — The members of the Maui Community Band volunteered their time and talent, and Sunrise Rotary covered the cost of transporting the players and their instruments to Lahaina and back on July 4th for Music in the Park.

Other contributors who helped feed the musicians included Captain Jack’s Grill, Prison Street Pizza and Arts Education for Children.

The Maui Community Band is a longtime favorite at Lahaina’s Fourth of July celebration, as they exemplify the spirt of the community as they come together to enjoy the holiday.

Founded by Lisa Owen in 2003, the band today has over 40 members ranging in age from 8-78 years who represent all walks of life.

The mission of the band is to perform concerts for the community at various venues and to provide an opportunity for wind and percussion players to continue to improve their skills.

The Maui Community Band often works with the nonprofit Arts Education for Children Group, which has commissioned several original works for them, including “Haleakala” by well-known Composer Carl Strommen.
