LAHAINA — The historic Lahainaluna High School Boarders’ Time Clock structure recently acquired another piece of Lahainaluna history: the Weather Vane from a demolished building on campus.

The Weather Vane stood on top of the feed house roof that was located in the agricultural area of campus. The lower level of the feed house was a nursery for dairy calves in the 1940s and in the 1980s became part of the aquaculture program under agriculture teacher Ted Kawamura.

When demolishing the building was imminent, the Lahainaluna Archive Committee salvaged the Weather Vane and stored it until a suitable site could be chosen on which to mount it.

The Time Clock, constructed in 1941 by the LHS Carpentry Shop, was used by boarders to clock in and out of their work hours on campus.

In 1976, the Time Clock became inoperative. It wasn’t until 2009 that the clock and housing were refurbished through the Lahainaluna Boarders Association with donations from the LHS Classes of 1948 and 1950.

Both the Time Clock and the Weather Vane carry strong memories for former Lahainaluna Boarders.

The Archive Committee is looking for any information about the Weather Vane or stories related to it.
